Twitter is a social platform for
which users can use for multiple reasons. Though it is often used for public media,
it can be used for educational purposes as well. The amount of education-related
articles I find on Twitter really expands my knowledge on everything going on in
the educational field. Although I have a personal account, my school account is
filled with accounts related to teaching, specifically elementary education.
Using Twitter for these purposes can help me learn about new research done on
children to see what conditions better their learning which can in turns, help
me perfect my teaching techniques when I become a teacher.
Digital divide is used to discuss
the gap between those individuals who have access to technology and those individuals
that don’t. Those who did grow up around technology have a greater advantage
than those who did not. With limited access, students miss out on software like
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, spreadsheets, drawing programs, etc. These
software applications can enhance the learning of students, making those
students who unfortunately do not have the advantage of accessing these
software applications at home, academically behind.
When evaluating websites, you
should consider the currency, authority, accuracy, and the objectivity. A
credible website should typically have a clean layout, credible
sources/authors, copyright, and accurate information. These features are
important because as a teacher you want to give out the best information to
your students. Thus, giving them information from a sketchy website could
confuse them and get in the way of their learning.
Twitter is an excellent resource for cutting edge research! I'm glad you are gaining a lot from the experience.
